The research library on women, initially called the Women's Archives, started with a collection of papers, books and memorabilia documenting the suffrage movement (1848-1920) and women's political and reform work after 1920. In 1967 the library acquired its current name. Its holdings of manuscripts, books, periodicals, oral histories etcetera document the lives and activities of US women from the 19th century onward. A special section of the library houses an extensive collection of cookbooks and literature on culinary history.
